The Britannias are the biggest British night in the Hollywood calendar and considered the official kick-off to awards season! A dazzling event where Brits and Anglophiles alike come together to take over Los Angeles for an evening to honor individuals who have dedicated their careers to advancing the art forms of the moving image in the US, UK and beyond.
This year’s Britannia Award honorees list boasts the best Hollywood and Britain has to offer! Meryl Streep will be presented with the Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film, Sam Mendes will receive the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing presented by The GREAT Britain Campaign, James Corden will receive the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year presented by Burberry, and Amy Schumer will receive the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy presented by Kodak. Orlando Bloom will be the recipient of the Britannia Humanitarian Award presented by The Beazley Group, and Harrison Ford will be presented with the Albert R. Broccoli Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Entertainment.
Honorees over the years have included Sir Michael Caine, Martin Scorsese, Dame Elizabeth Taylor, Anthony Hopkins, Colin Firth, Clint Eastwood, Dame Helen Mirren, Steven Spielberg, Ben Stiller, George Lucas, Kate Winslet, Robert DeNiro, Daniel Day Lewis and George Clooney.
Our particular favorite moment….

British actor and comedian Jack Whitehall will take over hosting duties this year. Whitehall is one of the UK’s biggest and most popular comedy talents. He began his career as a stand-up comedian, performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Pleasance Theatre’s Comedy Reserve. He is a regular panelist on the game show “A League of Their Own.”
The 2015 Jaguar Land Rover British Academy Britannia Awards will air in the US on PopTV on Friday, November 6 at 9pm. The show will also air in the UK and other broadcasters in Europe, Latin America, Canada, South Africa and Asia, allowing BAFTA to reach countries across the world, showing the true global influence of the British entertainment community.
And of course, as always…The Anglophile Channel will be there to cover this exciting event for all our Anglophile fans around the world! Here are some highlights from last year’s amazing red carpet:
Of course, it’s not all about red carpet frocks and hobnobbing with the stars. The evening also has a special and worthwhile charitable purpose. Proceeds from the gala ceremony support BAFTA Los Angeles’ on-going education, scholarship, community outreach and archival projects!
So what are you waiting for? Grab your tickets before they’re all gone! I’d like to personally request a seat next to Colin Firth, if he’s attending…..thank you very much.
